"Classic Sundblom"

Currently Showing on Coca-Cola Times-Square Billboard during the holiday season.

Award-winning Advertising Creative Dámaso Crespo, and Art Director of the Coca-Cola Holiday 2001 Global Campaign, wanted to bring to life, for the first time in history, the emblematic Coca-Cola Santa Claus on the 70th Anniversary of this beloved cultural icon. This character was created by legendary illustrator Haddon Sundblom for a Coke holiday advertising ad in 1931, and for the 2001 Coke holiday global commercial, Crespo’s vision of re-creating that oil-painted Sunblom Santa’s world in an animated spot was an exciting challenge. For this extraordinary task, Academy Award-winning Studio Pascal Blais and Oscar winner animator Alexander Petrov were selected. Petrov, master of the paint-on-glass animation technique, hand-painted with slow-drying oil paints all frames of this 30-second spot to air during Christmas worldwide, becoming a Coca-Cola classic that can be currently seen on New York's Times Square Coke Digital Billboard every holiday season.
